is taking adderol and or ritalin addictive? does taking it reduce brain activity or concentration over time in the sense that i wont be able to work/do something productive without it?
am i being clear here? if the anser is yes to any of these questions does it matter on the dosage or the frequency of intake?
my case: i am under a lot of pressure to do well in college. my school is very hard and competitive, especially my majors. its a cakewalk to get a B but you need to bend over backwards, kiss ass and slit the throats of the rest of the class to get an A.
I also Row. Thats 5;45 am practice and 5pm practice every single day except sunday and sundays are races often times. so not much time to have a life.
in any case, i take adderoll + ritalin, whichever i can get my hands on, during finals of each terma and in cruch time averaging about 10 pills a semester.
also took painkillers but i dont think it did much to increase my concetrantion.

10 pills a semister at what mg. You do not want to od on these. I took alot, and then forgot i took alot and took some more and then i couldnt sleep for a while. It took all my concentration just to not move as i tried to fall asleep. I felt sick the entire time and it sucked. Taking to much of this stuff sucks trust me, i wont ever do it again. Before this great experience i had used adderal and ritalin multiple times for school it worked wonders. I was using a higher dosage than you are. You should probably talk to your doctor, and he can get you on a set dose that could help you with school. Im not sure about it being addictive it sort of was for me, but then again so is any other drug i like. It probably depends on your personality. I have an addictive one so it doesn't help. Since your taking a low dose i dont think it could cause much if any brain damage. It made me think, well what if i was on adderal i could do this way faster, but i never was just stumped and had to be on it to do things.

Well, the painkillers would have the opposite effect, They would make it harder to concentrate. But in answer to your question..... Adderol is a form of amphetamine, more precisely it is a racemic mixture of d and l isomers of amphetamine, so it, just like methamphetamine is rather addictive. Meth is much more active in your body than amphetamine, but they have a similar action. Ritalin is really not an amphetamine, rather, it is methylphenidate(sp?), but again has a stimulating effect. I have read some papers that say that Ritalin is much less addictive than amphetamines. I think a big factor is how much and how often do you take it. Someone who used "10pills" in a semester is probably not using it enough to form a physiological dependance on the chemical, but if you used ten pills in a week, it could make it a little harder to stop using them. You make it sound like you don't have a script for these, so you might want to pay attention to the strength of the pills that you get, there is a pretty big difference between 5mg adderol and 30mg adderol. Like ttyl above said, too much amphetamine can be no fun.
Now about the brain activity.....
This is a little harder to answer, as there is conflicting research about what these drugs do to the mental capacity of the user. Obviously they are stimulents, so you can stay up all night and study, but they also make the act of working more "enjoyable" or easyer to do. This is probably due to a number of different actions, and is pretty hard to pin down. Amphetamines also raise dopamine and seratonin levels in the brain, making you happier, I am not sure about the Ritalin though, but this would again make studying a little easyer. I read this really interesting paper on the effects of amphetamine on stimululation sensation. In a nut shell, people who are on amphetamines could feel less intense stimulation than those not on it. This would lead you to believe that amphetamines could make your brain a little more sensitive to stimulation and thus that it could make learning a little easyer. But, in high doses, really high doses, it has the opposite effect, and can cause brain damage in rats over a long time. So... I guess I would say that these drugs can help you study and make the learning process a little more simple. I can not see how any of these drugs could make you any "smarter" or raise your IQ. Also. doctors have been putting kids as young as three on this stuff for years with no major side effects. So I doubt that you would be putting yourself in any harm of long term damage pending you kept the dosage reasonable.
