new members really have nothing to worry about. We are more concerned with people who have been here over a year and don't post. They just suck up bandwidth. Don't let this stop you from posting, good start so far! :)

Posting something like a thx is important to the people who run/contribute to this board - a thanks encourages posters to post more material. There are plenty of boards where you can post something & nobody has to respond, but the idea here is for people to contribute. Posting a thanks to someone who started a thread you enjoy is just one way to contribute, and often is one that is treasured by a thread creator because they can have a sense that what they are posting matters, and without them, things fall quickly out of the que.
You don't have to say thanks for EVERY thread, but, at the least, it is just good courtesy to give something back.
No go get your post count up.

damnitman, please see a pm I sent you regarding this. It tries to explain why a thanks is encouraged here at WR - it is just one way to contribute, which is the idea here, as well as encourages a poster to post more material & thus keeps WR the best place to be.

Do you ever see a thread you like? Do you know that the simple words "thank you for the post" encourage whoever contributed the thread to offer more?

then why are you on a forum? why not just go to a regular website? a forum is interactive a website is just the webmaster posts something and people look at it. this is a forum if you hadnt noticed. so if your not contributing and interacting then leave. simple. if your not interacting then your a lurker and waste our bandwidth

Although I've only been here a day or so, I've come to realize that alot of people who post or don't post don't fully understand what exactly goes into supporting and maintaining a site such as this, especially some of those who don't undertsand, or choose not to want to understand, that not only is it fun and entertaining to be apart of, but also a lot of work. Even though I am not the type of person to have a lot to say, there are times in which I feel it's necessary to express my thoughts, and this happens to be one of them. In otherwords, sometimes it just pisses me off how people take everything for granted before actually taking the time to look at the big picture. All in all, I wanted to say thank you for an awesome site, it's been fun.

It means your account has been deleted. Over 30,000 inactive members and lurkers already have been pruned.
Example: look at this old thread. Scroll down for poster named Shannon:
http://forums.webrats.com/showthread.php?t=56
her info under her handle is different. she was pruned.

This might sound odd, but could you prune me? It's way easier than deleting an account I only use to lurk anyway.
Google and my name aren't a mix I like seeing. I appreciate the prune.

This will be weird but can you prune me? I've been meaning to delete my account for a while, and my lurking days are done.
Thanks! Sorry if this is a double post.. wouldn't that be ironic.
michaeljohn
12-20-2006, 07:17 PM
well, we don't prune accounts, just don't log in anymore. eventually it will be pruned. google will still pick your handle up, pruned or not.
Limit what the new users can get into, until they hit say 100 posts

well, we once had a requirement of 10 posts, and then later 25 to view girl pics, but that just led to nonsense posts everywhere. Still, it might not be a bad idea to try again.

Would it be so unfair to take into account quality (of posts) rather than quantity?

What a lot of these kiddies do not understand, is they think they can come in here and lurk, and get free Pron. and do nothing. Not offer a Thank you, or anything. They just want it to be as easy as life has been under Mommy and Daddy.
It is not hard to add a comment. If you like something, say so. Tell the Thread starter thanks or you agree, or what ever.
You can even ask questions and people will answer.
But just coming in here to do nothing but stare, and not offer anything? Come on.
Of ocurse, I am somewhat opinionated.

well i rarely go online so not sure if i have 100 posts or not to be honest.
If this forum is for regular visitors only, thats fair enough.

well here's my 1st post.i never really vivsited much till now.still haven't figured out how to watch tv.it's what i originally signed up for.
First pick a show to watch. Click on the thread title and a post will come up with a player screen and controls. Click on the screen to activate the controls. If you never watched any of the TV programs before you will be asked to install an ActiveX plug-in. There should be a small bar at the top of your window which when clicked will ask if you want to install the plug in. After the plug-in is installed you should be able to view the program. If a program isn't available when you try to play it you'll get a black screen with a logo and a 404 file not error. If so you might place a note in the Help desk and let the mods know. That part of the server might be down for maintenance. Check a post in a different section if you want to be sure the plug in works.
Happy viewing!!!

Wow! Not sure why I came into this thread but glad I did. Just learned 3 things from this serendipitous occasion:
There's TV on this forum,
There's a definite need for communication in form of posts and speaking up,
I really like Masuimi Max.
That's all.

aye... even as a person with low post count i do agree, lurkers arent wanted. even if the thread has been closed or whatnot, at least you could send a pm saying thanks just to show your appriciation of what the people who work hard for this site do to keep it running and being the great site that it is
just my thoughts on the subject though :)
