you get what you pay for. A glock is the most reliable handgun on the market. If you want stopping power...get a .40cal or greater. My glock mod 27 is small enough for easy concelment, has a double recoil spring, was easy and on target right out of the box. Even my wife quailified with it...and she had never fired a handgun before.

Glock all the way, personnaly i carry a 22 .40 S&W, exact same model as over 70% of law enforcement in the nation including most Federal agencies.

Old S&W ranks high on my list. Glock hasnt been around long enough for me, i suspect over time the plastic construction will have its problems.

I Prefer the good old govt 45, or my custom .44 mag ruger
i say go sig or go home. but ive read reports of glocks having 186,000 rounds fired through with reliability. very few jams. very fine weapons and very very safe.

i'm sry but i can't stand a glock. I just don't trust to walk around all day without a saftey. I mean don't get me wrong the shoot good and are reliable , but to make a statement like " A glock is the most reliable handgun on the market " is just crazy. I mean if they are sooo reliable then why do all of your military specail forces ask for 1911 stle handguns such as the colts or paras? And just for the record glock likes to boost about how you can drop thier gun in water, mud or sand and it will still fire. okay true, but Who cares!!! I mean browning was the first to do this with any of there 1911 style handguns and this is the same method that all 1911 style handguns are made to day.
not trying to affend you but i just hate glocks

Glocks are a good pistol. I had one, sold it and now have another one. I still favor my
kimber .45. I just want to put it away. I have shot around 10,000 rounds through it
and want to save it for another day.

I've found the only people who have told me get a glock were police officers..
They are allright.. But the safety mechanisim is a joke. (On the trigger).
I have a S&W sw99 Glock knock off .40 CAL. Its allright. A little to light..
But Ive shot glocks,Sigs, And S&W.. I've got to say my next purchase is gonna be a Sig, Or a Baretta..

i have a glock 17c for almost 5 years now, and have not had 1 single complaint. Best purchase i have made in those 5 years
Well it is hard to say anything bad about glock I cant help but prefer sig, beretta, and kimber. I have got to agree that the classic 1911 style kimber .45's on the market today are some of the most reliable best autos out there. Glocks just look like toys to me, I have shot many glocks and have been impressed but when it comes down to it I just dont like them

what about deagles?
usp anyone? i was just talkin shit sayin go sig or go home. im just pissed usp tactical doesnt come in 9 milli anymore. i love 9. .40 and .45 are overrated and just cost more and cause more wear and tear on the weapon. besides 147gr 9milli has like 400 ftlbs of force. that'll knock a bitch on his ass.

these guys killed a 505 pound boar with a single round from a 9milli. check these rounds out they're amazing. stopping power has so much more to do with grain, shape, and velocity than caliber

ok, ive got a sig 220 (.45) and a p-14 para/ord. glocks are good but i prefer the sig.
and a great point up above about the 147gr 9mm.. it has good stopping power. but there is no substitute for the massive wound cavity thru the center of the body that a .45 makes with its big, slow and gaping hole making capabiity without getting into the overpenetration department. love this subject and would like to bullshit with anyone interested... im not a great shot, but i shoot alot. and yes my "other gun" is a .50bmg sniper rifle.

.45 XD. Best fucking handgun ever built. Couple with a Surefire and nobody stands a chance against you. 14 fucking rounds, fits perfectly in your hand.

yeh got 3 extra clips for the p-14 .....so 60 rounds of .45 should do the trick or else i need the ak.... you can never be too prepared.

I carry a Springfield XD daily. I prefer it over the Glock because it has a fully supported chamber, which the Glock doesnt.
I will probably own a few glocks someday though, they are good guns.

Agree on the XD, better feel than a glock, more features. I have seen failures w/ 9mm. My new fav. is the .357 sig or anything that starts with .4

Personally i prefer the Walther P99 "Glock Clone". Their more accurate and more reliable than a glock. and by the way, glock .40 cal's have a nasty habbit of stovepiping expended cartriges. Walther has a .40 cal mod for the P99, and its about five times the gun.
Like you said, you get what you pay for...
and if its concealability your looking for, they have a mod that cuts about three inches off the barrel and about two off the grip, and trip about a quarter of an inch off teh width.
and besides... how many secret agents do you know use Glock???

I have a bunch of pistols, and I've had a Glock model 19 for years. Extremely accurate right out of the box. Never a jam. You have to get used to the 'safety' though. Beretta M9 is a fine gun also. Another one for extreme accuracy is the CZ-75. Double action, double stack. Great feel. Enjoy.

It sounds like to me that alot you folks have good taste in hardware. The military issues of .45's have always turned me on. When i first fired a.45 in the service it felt like it was made for my hand.Watch taking advice from mood enforcement officers .When you see them in the media in a gun battle they are usually not facing the suspect, they are usually looking at the ground behind them aimlesly shooting at what ever.Remember the Keho brothers shootout with police in ohio. But anyways my personal weapon now is alittle tiny P25. its so small I cant find it sometimes.Every one around me knows that i have it , but they cant tell when I have it on my persons. This allows me to pick my own fights. My friends Face and Murdock always say to me that its apart of the "Jazz",Hannibal!?

I prefer my HK USP .45 Expert, or my wifes USP .45 compact. Had a USP 40 and a .45 Tactical.
In all reality, the pistol is just a tool, the real weapon is what's operating the trigger. If you don't know how to shoot, and practice often, it won't matter what you shoot because you won't hit shit.

I have owned two Glocks and like them both. I sold my Sig,still have a Star Firestar .45 compact. Have shot an XD (didnt care for it). To owners of older Glocks: I was at the range recently and had a case seperate- the rim and primer seperated and left the case inside the barrel. One of the guys at the range is a Glock Amorer. He told me that the older firing pins did not have some kind of relief cut into them to get rid of powder crap buildup (you cant get to this during normal cleaning). I had him rebuild it with new parts (about 60 bucks total). This gun is my main home defense gun, and to have it fail was a big disappointment. I now have my trusty Ruger .357 revolver close at hand !

I have more than 30,000 rounds through my HK. The only malfunctions I have had were either user induced on purpose with snap caps for malfunction drills, or poor handloads. Not a hiccup otherwise.. which is why I use commercial ammunition for carry and handloads on the range.
I'll see your .357 and raise you something meaner.

The ammo that seperated on me (2 rounds) were Federal factory loads. I was just giving a heads up to owners of older Glocks. Your AR looking piece is nice, but I prefer my Benelli Super 90 with laser for up close work !

put a taclight on it. The laser is great and wonderful, but what good does that do you in terms of target identification?
A flashlight will also generally mimic the spread of the shot.
plus, i've got sixty times the fun to your max 8 :) Considering my close in work was in afghanistan and iraq doing room clearing, i'll play

Thats a good link jf - I like those air freedom rounds for home defense - it is always been my only fear, that a missed shot in the home will ricochet or go through a wall & hit a family member accidentally. Those rounds look cool in that they break up on impact a lot easier.

glock get my vote hands down...i've been a master armorer for a few years now and have owned just about every thing on the market ....I own 7 glocks now 1 for duty and the rest for fun and off duty 2 for competion shoots when i have time...let me tell you i've hurt alot of peoples feelings at competions with the stock 35 glock....glocks rule

i like the glock but i think they are a lil over rated. the s&w M&P is a nice gun. i have shot both back to back and i would much perfer the M&P over the glock. i personally have the EAA witness-p compact .45 and i love it. my girlfriend shoots it frequently and we are going to go get her a M&P with in the next month. i have heard of many people who swear on glocks and then shoot a M&P and then they sell their glock to get the M&P.

carried a sig in Iraq.. it performed wonderfully in all types of conditions with little to maintainance. I no longer like to carry a weapon, but I agree. It doesn't matter what you carry if you can't shoot, so practice, practice, practice.

i carry the sig in 45 (model#220), but y favorite is the para-ordanance 45acp...16 shots of 230 grain is all anyone needs for home defense. but if they aint on the land yet here is a pic of my 800-1200 yd system;

its a 1919a4 with crank fire
then there is my longer range out to about 2000 meters:

The g17 9mm is the only glock with a fully supported barrel. See how much space is left open at the bottom of the chamber. If you fire lead pressure will continue to build up. If the shell case cracks due to over pressure the pressure leaves at 6 o'clock out the bottom of the gun (glock kaboom). This can happen with all handguns, but I would not use lead in HK's or glocks.

I have only heard of/seen a Glock misfire once, and when it did it shot about 6 times on its own wounding my friend who is a US Marshal. They are nice and comfortable but personally I prefer a 1911 over my G18c any day.

yh glocks are meant to be really reliable. good wep
Glad to see everyone is getting to the range! I'm noticing a few trends I think need to be identified: 1) we like pistols; 2) we like quality pistols that will do the job when needed; 3) some are speaking of concealed carry weapons, others of larger weapons which may be difficult to conceal; 4) everyone wants a good weapons which will servce them well, if needed.
Let's break this discussion down:
A) If concealment is not an option, the .45 ACP is difficult to complain about. It has done the job for nearly a century, with very few complaints! My gandfather loved his Thompson 45 while in France and Germany during WW2. He always complimented the knockdown ability of the large round. (He really had nothing positive to say about the M1 Carbine and the small .30 carbine round!)
B) We need satisfactory knock down power from the first round fired. Today's modern bullet construction does allow a person to use a smaller diameter bullet to get the job done. There is a trade off in everything we do. Make sure you have enough muzzle velocity and energy to get the job done at close ranges.
C) Do you carry a concealed weapon? Irregardless of weather conditions and time of year? If you do, the weapon must be concealable and you need to be able to conceal the weapon during cold and warm months.
What do I do with my weapons? I have several; some I shoot, and some I carry concealed on a daily basis. Currently, in spring and summer I carry a .32 ACP with 8 rounds that weighs 10 ounces, fully loaded and ready to go. The gun is polymer framed and has the trigger safety, (ala Glock). I can carry this gun in clothing as light as swim trunks and you would never know I have it on me. For fall and winter (and other times/places I believe a more substantial caliber is necessary) I carry the same physical weapon (in 9mm or .40 cal). They are made by the same manufacturer, with similar physical characteristics. This allows me to trade out weapons without worrying about magazine and slide releases, etc. They are all the same, except for a slight change in physical size.
What do ya'll think?
Enjoy your day! Better yet, head to the range and pop off a few rounds!

Glocks don't fit my hand. They have a bad break angle for me and I don't shoot them instintivly. I've seen one blow up on the range with the unsuported chamber. Glocks are disposible guns. Some cops get a new one each year and sell the old one.

I'm a big fan of the Glock 19. Mine is hooked up with trijicon night sites, extended mag release, and a 3.5lb trigger. As such it shoots much nicer than your standard Glock. It has jaded me, however, because now all I want to shoot is that gun. I've also got a XD-9, Bersa Thunder .380, etc.

If your wife is good with the gun, you better be good... just teasing... I agree with you, I dont know much about guns really but used to sometimes go shooting with my father and his glock. (just at targets, not at anyone) It was always fun and didnt really kick back too much either.

I hope jackass is either a class 3 dealer or misinformed on the model number of his glock...
Glock 34 so far, it's reliable and accurate...like my 1911. *shrugs* 17+1 ain't bad though.

Old S&W ranks high on my list. Glock hasnt been around long enough for me, i suspect over time the plastic construction will have its problems.
Glock came out in the early 1980s. The polymer frame not only holds up, but is easy to clean, and dampens recoil. By the time Glock has been around long enough for you, you may be too old to lift one.

Glock 17 here.
Have got some buddies in law enforcement that carry them. They tell me that their lives depend on those guns.
That was good enough for me.
