I'm getting my concealed carry permit soon, and I need a new handgun because the 9mm I have is like 200 years old and weighs like 50 pounds. I was thinking about spending between 200 and 300 dollars. I've seen a few good choices at the gun shop, a 9mm taurus and a couple .38 revolvers. Any gun people have any suggestions?

A Kel-Tec p-11 goes for around $310. Supposed to be reliable enough, not to heavy either. The Taurus 85 is a nice .38, very accurate.
The Ruger p97 is a little more expensive, $450 roughly. A nice pistol though, worth it if ya have the cash to spare.
My prices might be a little off as its been a couple of years since i was in the states.

Here's (http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?model=24/7-9BP-17&category=Pistol) what I ended up with. Didn't realize until I got home that it was NRA handgun of the year, so I guess I did ok.
I'm probably getting another gun pretty soon, any thoughts on the Hi-Point guns or a marakov?

Very nice, like the key security they have. Not that gone on Hi-Point, they've an odd kinda look about them. In saying that they have some good reliability stats. Supposed to be good on recoil too.
Marakov or Makarov? Only familiar with the Makarov (Russian). The Makarov Pistol is a great gun. Only slightly smaller than a .38 special, the gun is very accurate. I'd rate it higher than a Walther PPK.
If it is Marakov, they Bulgarian?

It must be makarov then. The Russian one, whichever that is. Haven't found any around here but I'll think I'll extend my search a bit if they're that good. Pretty inexpensive from what I've read too. Around 200 bucks.
