I am taking a ski trip to Lake Tahoe around the 14th of December and I plan on snowboarding. I have been skiing before twice and i got the hang of it easly, so now that i have that down i want to try snowboarding. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me my first time out. I live in south texas and i go surfing prolly like once a month, and i like to think that i have pretty good balance, lol. So if anyone has any tips or tricks i would be happy to hear them.

Go skiing a lot, havnt done any snowboarding, but one of the more common injuries id see snowboarders with, coming down the slopes, are broken wrists. So it might be an idea to bring some wrist protection along, wrist splints like kickboxers use. Quite cheap and you'd hardly notice them.

Take two advil before you even go out in the morning, and another one at lunch - your ass will thank you - but you shouldn't have much problem coming from a surfing background.

I never was really sore from snowboarding. I've heard a lot of people saying they're asses hurt the next day, but i think its more from them sitting on it too much, and not getting up and trying again. Surfing is nothing like snowboarding, i did both. Boarding is a lot more responsive. Tips- Stay low, keep your hands out for balance, learn to carve both ways not just heelside(it will help in the end), keeping trying dont give up easliy, dont get freaked out by speed, remember you can always just sort of tip over and stop. It wont be that graceful at first, but you'll get used to it. Last stick to what you can do- meaning dont try to mob off in hard stuff because you learned how to turn, id stay away from the parks also.

steer with your shoulders, and where you look is where you go
i think the most important thing is dont fight your feet, let it flow and you will go

I have been boardin since 91 and have never broken anything. Never injured wrists. Never put anything on them to protect them, because then I will concentrate on that.
Keep your hands out for balance.
Keep your knees slightly bent.
Use your hips to start a turn then your feet. use your feet to help turn by either pressing down on your toes, or heel. the direction you will turn.
Learn to stop first! Heel edge is great.
Wear a helmet!
and also what Icarus said, do nto give up and try to have fun. I love it.
Easier then Ski'ing for me.
