hey all!
i've been reading a lot of sci fi latley and i have a rather morbid intrest in stories about the end of the earth.
can anyone suggest some cool titles? i'm thinking allong the lines of Stephen king's "the stand" through to things like Arthur C Clarke's "songs of a distant earth"

F paul Wilson has a series of books which have an "end of times" theme. The Keep, The Tomb, The touch, Reborn, Reprisal, Nightworld. Should be read in that order.

Tons of end of world scenarios, very well thought out and it will keep you reading for hours!

Ender's Game and then Ender's Shadow, by Orson Scott Card. They were so addicting I read the rest of the series as quickly as I could find them. It's about this battle school where they raise genius children to command Earth's defense against this other planet. It's really really good and smart. I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for, but I really like that kind of stuff.

Eddings is awesome. But most of his stuff is fantasy, not exactly what you're looking for. Card's Ender series is very good as well, but not exactly what you're looking for.
Surprised nobody has recommended "Left Behind." I haven't read it but it might fit the bill if you're into that kind of thing.

I'll suggest Peter Watts "Starfish" and "Maelstrom"...there is another that follows ("Behemoth"), but I have not gotten to it yet.
Another cool one from a few years back is Greg Bear "Blood Music"
More to come as I think of them...

One of my fav books ever.
I like Battlefield earth, I know it's kinda overdone but I still find its a good read. Written by L Ron Hubbard (Scientology guy) It's the only thing worth reading of his.

yea geb, heard that it is a far better read than the movie was to watch!
gotta have a laugh at scientology .... hubbord said in the 60's that the best way to make a ton of cash was to start a religion .... guess his followers overlook that quote! (just an interesting bit of trivia for you all)
